Skala is a village located in southeastern Bulgaria in Sungurlare Municipality. Sungurlare is a town and a municipality which includes 30 settlements with 14890 residents. It is part of Bourgas Province. Bourgas Province is located in southeastern Bulgaria, on the southern Black Sea coast. Its capital is the city of Bourgas. Bourgas Province is the second largest Bulgarian province by area (about 7 753 sq.km) , after Sofia Province, and fourth by population (about 422 458 residents). The Black Sea coastal areas and beaches with fine golden sand together with the thermal mineral springs provide favorable conditions for relaxation and recreation and for the development of balneological and sea tourism. To the north and south of Bourgas one can visit numerous holiday complexes and villages which offer wonderful conditions for vacation and relaxation. Archaeological, architectural and historic monuments in the region are favorable for development of cultural tourism. The Old Nessabar is a unique monument of culture and is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In the Strandzha Mountains can be seen some of the most ancient structures made by humans – the dolmens. Thracian mounds, ancient Greek poleis, remains of ancient and medieval fortresses have been found here. One can immerse in the unique atmosphere created by the seaside houses from the National Revival period in Nesebar and Sozopol and the preserved samples of the Strandzha house in the villages of Fakia, Brashlyan, Bulgari, Kosti, Brodilovo, etc. The village of Skala itself is located only 25 km from the historical town of Kotel, 40km from the town of Sliven and 80km from the seaside town of Bbourgas. The area is well-known for its peacefulness, beautiful nature, and chances for exploration of the famous historical town of Kotel – source of many cultural monuments and relics from the distant and near past.
