The village of Karanovo is located in South-East Bulgaria. It comprises a part of Nova Zagora Municipality – Sliven District. The area size of the village is 25sq.km. The number of its inhabitants is 930 – according to latest estimates. The altitude of the region varies between 200 and 300m above sea level. The village of Karanovo withstands on only 9km from the town of Nova Zagora, 24km from the town of Stara Zagora, and 38km from the city of Sliven.Villages that are also included in the Nova Zagora Municipality are: the village of Asenovets, Bryastovo, Dyadovo, Elenovo, Kamenovo, Konyovo, Korten, Lyubenova Mahala, Nauchene, Omarchevo, Pitovo, Sudievo, etc. For most of them you can find descriptive information on our site. Prehistoric FoundationsAncient Bulgarian Golden TreasuresPrehistoric Treasures Information about Nova Zagora Municipality:It comprises is a part of the Upper Thracian Valley between the big regional centers of Stara Zagora, Sliven and Yambol. Its territory covers the Novozagorsko pole the Sveti Iliyski vuzvishenia (St Ilia Hills) and part of the Sredna Gora Mountain slopes. The climate is moderate and favorable for developing agriculture. Major water resources are the Toundzha River, the Sazliyka River and the Blatnitsa River. Upon the Toundzha River is built the Zhrebchevo Dam Lake. Near the village of Korten there is a mineral spring. Near the village of Dyadovo there are stone-pits, near the village of Elenovo - quarts and quartzite fields, and on the northern slopes of the Sveti Iliyski Vuzvishenia - gypsum and graphite deposits. Some cultural monuments and natural sights of the municipality:The major sights are located in its northern part. Such are the stone formations Orlov Kamuk (Eagle's Stone), the picturesque branches of the Toundzha River, and the remains from the Roma fortress near Zhrebchevo Dam Lake. The following have been discovered: over 500 mounds, 26 pre-historic settlement mounds, 62 settlements from The late Iron Age, 74 from Roman times and 32 Medieval settlements, 13 fortresses and 4 monasteries. The "Sveti Velikomuchenik Georgi" (St Martyr George) Church, built in 1837 witnessed the historic events from 1877 when 1013 people from the Lyubenova Mahala and the nearby villages lost their lives.
Environmental Protection and Tourism:A project for Collection, Making harmless and Constant Storage of Pesticides Unfit for Usage has been implemented in the region. The forests cover 30% of the territory of the municipality. Two thermal springs of water temperature from 20 to 65°С have been discovered. The Korten spa have proved their healing qualities in the treatment gastric and intestinal disorders, gall and liver disorders, disorders of the locomotory system and the peripheral nervous system. Cognitive, business and conference tourism could also be developed. Along the Toundzha River in the outskirts of the village of Banya, around Zhrebchevo Dam Lake there are conditions for fishing, rest and recreation.
