Jeravna is a little Bulgarian village with an ancient Bulgarian architecture, situated in the central part of the Eastern Balkan mountains, near the town of Kotel in Bulgaria. Jeravna is a world wide known architectural reserve.The village is located on 16 km form the town of Kotel, 44 km form the city of Sliven and 110 km from the seaside town of Bourgas. It is situated in an area that is convenient for travel because of the good condition of the roads. During the winter the snow is cleaned in time and again travel and transportation remain normal. The village is a unique architectural reserve with over 200 preserved traditional wooden houses, some of which are over 300 years old. Open for visit are the houses in Sava Filaretov, Chorbadji and Jordan Jovkov – persons important for the Bulgarian history and cultural development. There is a picture gallery in the building in the old school, which is open to visits too. Unique icons are exhibited in the St. Nikolai Church.Many foreign visitors enjoy each year all the opportunities and the chances for historical exploration the place has to offer. Moreover some of them have already permanently joined the community. The outskirts of Jeravna and the nearby villages are perfect for ecological tourism, mountain trips and many more activities. The lake next to the village and the Kotleshnitsa River provide opportunities for sport fishing.The land around Jeravna has been inhabited by the Thracians. There are no clear evidences for the time they disappeared, but there are facts that prove they were here. There are still four Thracian knolls in the Jeravna surroundings. They are not tumuli, but small hills, made probably for some ritual reason. Some authors claim that these are communication outfits, because there is direct visibility between all the four knolls and even with a couple other knolls in the land of the neighbor village Medven. The Romans too have been living in the land around Jeravna a couple of centuries ago. The Vida fortress has been constructed during this period.The ethnological museum of Jeravna keeps an interesting coin collection that reveals many facts about the history of the area.All visitors appreciate the uniqueness of the place.
