History: The name of the municipality's administrative centre - a symbol of pride, strength and bravery - is connected with the Gradishteto Fortress, situated 1.5 km south of the town. The name Tvarditsa comes from the old Bulgarian word tvardina, which means "fortress" or "fortification". The fortress with its strategic location played an important role in the country's defence system during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, when Tarnovo became the capital. The town's name was never changed from the foundation of the initial settlement to our day. The Day of Tvarditsa is 14 October, St. Petka's Day - the patron saint's day of the St. Petka Church, which was build at the beginning of c. 19.To see the exact location of the village of Bliznets on the map, please click on the link below:BGmaps
